I first met Alek at his interview at Mid Glamorgan Council in the early 90's and he must have made a good impression as we hired him on the spot. I will always remember his dry sense of humour, his optimistic approach to life and the way he always put a positive thought into everything he did. Alek was a pleasure to work with and me and all of his colleagues, both at Mid Glamorgan and Caerphilly Council, will miss him greatly. He was inspirational in the way he battled through his illness and the world will be a sadder place without him.
